iannis xenakis

known for his mathematical approach to composition and particularly revered for his developments in electronic and computer music of the 1950s. xenakis, who was also an architect, would draw upon theories in algebra, game theory, probability, and group theory to compose...but it wasn't the intention for the listener to be aware of formulas used for his sound art. one of his most famous compositions, "metastasis" , is based upon the architecture of the pavillion phillips in brussels (which he also designed) .

the miller theater will be presenting iannis xenakis' only opera, "Orestia" september 13-17...incorporating dance, noh theather, and multimedia projections.
