.feathers.
it may sound silly, but how much do you think these feather costumes weigh? and then how tired you'd be after dancing for five minutes straight in one? beautiful though...

.soap&skin.
holy jesus mary joseph. anja plaschg aka soap&skin, is an austrian "wunderkind" at 19years old. it is easy to understand why she is a superstar in her home country, and increasingly popular in the uk- easily selling out concert halls with her trance-like performances. her work is difficult (for me) to look at and listen to, and equally difficult to look away. just breathless and brilliant.
.sahra motalebi.
Sahra Motalebi, “is murky, creepily inviting and frightening, both fearmonger and soothsayer. She sounds like she has a second career as an oracle.” Starting on the 14th of this month, MoMA’s Queens-outpost P.S. 1 will begin Saturday Sessions, a celebration of performance art that takes place monthly, every second Saturday. The inaugural event will feature J. Patrick Walsh 3, as well as Sahra Motalebi—an easy pair, as Motalebi comes from a family of Iranian folk singers, and Walsh’s work focuses on Middle Eastern automative youth culture. Motalebi’s set will feature visuals from collaborators such as Colin Whitaker, who directed the video for “Migration” below, a possible glimpse into what to expect from her on Saturday. Motalebi writhes around on the floor, singing about negative space, which we are certain refers to matters of the heart and not the holes in her leggings.

.tinariwen.
dear fader.
this is why you are awesome. thank you for posting this.
Tinariwen, "Lulla"
story Matthew Schnipper
Dirty Glove Bastard needs to write about Tinariwen. We know they are a “rock band” or “world music” or whatever and not “rap,” but this shit is gully as fuck. Right now Young Jeezy is getting his kid ready for school, playing this video and being like THAT’S RIIIGHT. These dudes recorded this shit in the desert in Mali, electric guitars, brown rocks and deep night drone. “Lulla” is from their new album, Imidiwan (which roughly translates to “companionship”), and it bumps. If today works out like it should, we will be in Paris playing this shit out of a convertible eating fresh papaya and spitting the seeds into the wind.

.rose.
i can't believe i haven't posted a picture of our "new" puppy yet.
we've had her for 5 months or so. she's amazing.
.clementina de jesus.
the most amazing part about this woman, aside from her voice, is that clementina was "discovered" at the age of 60 while the tropicalia movement was brewing in the early sixties. before she was a professional singer, she was a servant.

dinosaur feathers
sounds like something that luaka bop should pick up! are you listening?
my god is this video awful at best...although the cowboy getting bitchslapped at the 2:00 mark is pretty priceless. they should have done a quirky claymation.
anyway, I think they're going to be a next big something. keep your ears open for rumbling from them in the future.

.kimberly.
patti smith is one of my all time favorite poets and artists. i saw her a couple of months ago at the tibet house benefit concert at carnegie hall. she recited a beautiful passage from the tibetan book of the dead with her daughter, jesse smith, on piano...minutes later she spit on the stage during one of her classics (she did wipe it up after the song). tis the patti way i suppose.
